To work with the Houston Grand Opera Costume Shop Department with the preparation and maintenance of wardrobe for seasonal HGO shows, HGOco and other HGO events.



  • Assist the Wardrobe Supervisor with the preparation and maintenance of costumes for productions;
  • Assist with laundry, pressing, and steaming of costumes for the run of the shows;
  • Assist with basic alterations as needed;
  • Assist with the loading in and out of costumes.



  • Work with the Costume Shop Supervisor in all aspects of preparing, building and altering of costumes for productions.
  • Assist from time to time in the Houston Grand Opera Warehouse in the restocking/packing / organizing of costume stock and rental shows.



Experience with wardrobe in a university level or professional costume shop. A degree in Costume Technology/Production or related field a plus. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting, bending, standing, climbing, and/or walking. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Working knowledge of all aspects of the theatre process – production and technical, as well as performance. Excellent communication skills – written, oral, visual. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work productively under severe time pressures and meet deadlines. Extensive knowledge of clothing and theatrical practices a plus. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with staff, management, vendors and artists. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.
